      Chris Toney Obituary

      N. Christine Toney, 73, of Eleanor passed away on August 11, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.

      She was born at Dothan, WV, the daughter of the late Homer C. Coleman and Glenna Richmond Coleman Pearce. Her late stepfather was Paul Pearce.

      Chris was employed by the West Virginia University Extension Service as the secretary in the Putnam County Extension Office.

      Chris was a devoted wife and mother as well as an active helper in her community. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Lone Oak Church of God Mission. She was a 44-year 4-H leader in Putnam County. She was member of the WV 4-H All Stars. Her work with the 4-H program was special to her and she devoted countless hours serving the youth of Putnam County.

      Chris was a 1959 graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill, WV from where she earned the title of WV State Typing Champion.

      She was a former member of the Buffalo High School Band/Music Boosters, was an avid supporter of Buffalo High School athletics; a member of Buffalo Chapter # 150 Order of the Eastern Star; former board member and Mother Advisor of Buffalo Assembly # 62 Order of Rainbow for Girls; member of the Putnam County 4-H Foundation Board; active 4-H booth worker at the Putnam County Fair; and active supporter of her grandchildren in their sports and extracurricular activities.

      Chris was a big fan of WVU Mountaineer sports and enjoyed attending football games with her family.She is survived by her husband, John S. Toney; (OTHER SURVIVORS OMITTED).

      In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Midway Meridians 4-H Club to provide camp scholarships c/o Pamela Irvine, 671 Melton Road, Poca, WV 25159 or Lone Oak Church c/o Susan Flowers, 1889 McLane Pike, Red House, WV 25168.

      Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Raynes Funeral Home (Eleanor Chapel) with Pastor Scott Casto officiating. Entombment will follow at Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Eleanor Chapel.
