DeWitt, Sr. 71, of Thomson and formerly of Clinton, died Monday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Schmidt Funeral Home, Clinton with the Rev. Michael C Brewer officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by Clinton AMVETS Post 28. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Rowland and Eric Von Thun, Norman Jaeger, Roger and Fred, Stoecken, Bob Nelson and Earl Shields. He was born May 2, 1934, in Clinton to Elmer Forney and Barbara Blanchard and the adopted son of Philip DeWitt. He married Louise Stoecken on November 26, 1955, in Preston. She died in 1995. He was a graduate of Clinton High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on the U.S.S. Conway as a radio operator from October 5, 1951, to April 27, 1955. He worked for the railroad for a brief time and was a mechanic with Moore and Wessels Heritage Motors, McEleney Motors and Ross Motors, Clinton, before retiring in 1996. He was a former member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of Clinton AMVETS Post 28. SURVIVORS OMITTED.
