Blount Richard "Dick" Ingalls Blount was born March 10, 1934 in Colfax, Washington, and died August 15, 2012, in Seattle. He was son of Winifred (Sage) and Gilbert Martin Blount. His parents were married in June 1933, and "Inky" carried his middle name for Ingalls Creek, where his parents had camped on their honeymoon. Dick grew up in Garfield and Burien, Washington, attended the Highline schools, and graduated from the University of Washington where he was a Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity member. He worked for Northwest Airlines in Seattle, Spokane and Minneapolis. In 1964, he returned to Seattle as managing director of Holiday House Travel Service on Capitol Hill. Dick had traveled to nearly 150 countries, and the Blounts celebrated their 55th anniversary on a cruise from Perth, Australia to Singapore and Angkor Wat. Dick was one of the world's greatest optimists and will be remembered for his warmth and enthusiasm. He was a member of Saint Mark's Cathedral, where his smile greeted parishioners and visitors for over 40 years. He was active in the Capitol Hill Lions Club, Commodity Club, and Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce, once serving a term as "Mayor" of Capitol Hill. He chaperoned many hiking trips with his sons' Boy Scout Troop 13, where he was known as "Mr. Happy." He also served on the boards of L'Arche and Amigos de las Americas. In his retirement he enjoyed being a "Special Friend," reading with students at the John Stanford School for 20 years. Recently, he has enjoyed gardening in the Cascade P-patch. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; (SURVIVORS OMITTED). A memorial celebration will be held at Saint Mark's Cathedral, 1245 Tenth Avenue East at 10:00 a.m. on August 25.
